Tips & Tricks for a Plastic Free Halloween
With Halloween at the end of the month we thought we would share with you some of our tips and tricks to avoid too much of the plastic tat and have some fun making your own spooky creations!
Here are some simple ways to have fun this Halloween whilst still being kind to the environment
- The tradition of pumpkin carving at Halloween is associated with scaring off evil spirits. To reduce waste why not make pumpkin soup from the insides or roast the seeds for a tasty snack. The seeds could also be planted in the garden to grow your own pumpkin
- Root vegetables such as marrow, swedes, turnips & potatoes make great alternatives for Jack-O-Lanterns

REDUCE PLASTIC THIS HALLOWEEN
- Make jam jar lanterns by decorating the outside with tissue paper & black card spooky shapes
- To make your own witches broomstick, find a suitable stick for the handle. Bundle twigs together to create the end and tightly secure with string
- If you are buying sweets this Halloween, try to avoid sweets individually wrapped in plastic. Chocolates wrapped in foil, or larger bags of sweets eg jelly beans separated into smaller paper bags are a good alternative
- Decorate apples with chocolate or toffee to make a traditional & seasonal snack
